Yvette Baggett, '74 - Girls Basketball
Yvette was a highly decorated basketball player from 1970 to 1973. She was named First Team All-County 1971 thru 1973, First Team All-County Tournament 1972 and 1973, and Gar-Field’s Most Valuable Player in 1973. Her efforts in 1973 led the team to an undefeated 17-0 season with County, District and Section Championships. Yvette went on to play basketball at Old Dominion University where she was named First Team All-State in 1975 and 1976. She was also named the team’s Most Valuable Player in 1976. After college, Yvette had a successful coaching career. In 2002 she led the Stonewall Jackson’s Girls’ Basketball team to their first ever district championship and two regional playoff berths. As the school’s head track and field coach, Yvette won a state championship and coached sprinter Kim Graham, a gold medalist in the 4 x 400-meters relay in the 1994 Summer Olympic Games. |
