Rick Arrington – '75 Contributor
A 1975 Gar-Field graduate, Rick spent over 40 years attending and contributing to Gar-Field athletics. Most notable was a mutual love affair he shared with the Gar-Field football program. Rick was a valued statistician and constant supporter to the team for over 30 years, including the 1990 Virginia State AAA Football Championship. Generations of Gar-Field faithful remember Rick and his colleagues from the OWL Volunteer Fire Department blowing the red fire truck sirens after touchdowns and soccer goals in Barnett Stadium. A natural leader and a man with a servant’s heart, Ricky’s passion extended to the fire service. He rose from a 1973 volunteer to department Chief, a position he would serve for 15 years. He also worked for American Fire Equipment for 30 years. Ricky’s giving nature is remembered fondly to this day. He was known to help anyone in need, to include new recruit expenses to helping a friend secure a hotel room so they could be by their son’s side during a brain operation. Ricky was so loyal to the Indian football program that he warned his sister that she better not get married on a Friday night in the fall if she wanted him to attend, and he couldn’t have been more serious. |
