Ralph David George, '63 - Baseball, Basketball, Football, Track.
In 1963, the Journal Messenger News voted Ralph George the “Best All-Around Athlete.” Between 1960 and 1963, Ralph lettered four times each in baseball, basketball, and football. He was the battery mate of Mike Conner (G-F HOF '19) during his 19 strike performance for the baseball team. His senior year, he added track to give him a total of thirteen varsity letters. Known for his hard-hitting and hustling style of play, Ralph was named Most Valuable Player on the football team twice and was honored as an All-County player in both football and basketball. In 1962, Washington Redskins’ Ring of Fame member Vince Promuto visited Gar-Field to present Ralph with his team MVP trophy and his VFW Coaches’ voted MVP Trophy.. After graduation, Ralph served honorably in the Army National Guard and has received numerous awards for his support of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. In those efforts, he raised $150,000 worth of services to have a football field and stadium built from scratch. They later named and dedicated the field “Ralph George Field”. |
