Mike Sullivan, '76 - Baseball
Mike was a standout baseball player at Gar-Field from 1973 to 1976. Throughout Little League, Babe Ruth League, Middle School, High School , and American Legion, Mike remains legendary to this day. During his senior year, Mike recorded 73 strikeouts in 44 innings, with a 1.22 ERA. He was named All-County, All-District, and All-State every year he played. In 1976, Mike was named the number one player in the country by the Major League Scouting Bureau. During his senior year, Mike received over 100 college scholarship offers from across the country and he was the first player selected (Oakland A’s) in the first round of the Major League baseball draft in 1976. Choosing education over baseball, Mike went on to have an outstanding college career while playing for three ACC Championship teams at Clemson University. Following Clemson, Mike was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds. Sadly, Mike incurred a significant arm injury that ended his baseball career prematurely. His dominance as a baseball player and pitcher may not be seen in this area again. Mike, his G-F wife Kathy and two kids live in Canton, Georgia. |
