Michael Conner, '62 - Baseball, Football
Michael was a star baseball and football player at Gar-Field. On the mound, he had a no hitter and multiple 2-hit ball games during his career. In 1962, he set a school record as he struck out 19 of the 21 batters he faced in a 7-inning game in which allowed just one hit. He averaged an amazing 12 strike outs per game for an entire season, while being honored in multiple sports. His success in 1962 was rewarded by Michael being named Most Outstanding Athlete. After graduating from Gar-Field, Michael served honorably in the military before moving into a position as a highway inspector for the Department of Highways. He would eventually find himself managing contracts totaling close to 100 million dollars for the Driggs Corporation. Throughout the years, Michael joined many other G-F graduates playing baseball for the Prince William Indians, as well as fast-pitch softball and eventually slow pitch softball as it became popular in the area. He is currently the owner and president of a general contracting firm called the Conner Group Incorporated. Michael lives in Locust Grove, Virginia with his wife Norma of 51 years, with whom he had 3 beautiful daughters. He dedicates a lot of his free time serving as a Deacon at the Mount Ararat Baptist Church in Garrisonville, Virginia. |
