Kira Sims, '00 - Track & Fields
Kira was an outstanding track and field athlete at Gar-Field High School from 1997 to 2000. Kira won numerous Cardinal District and Northwestern Regional titles in the pole vault and several championships in the long jump and the triple jump. She was also named All-District and All-Region in the 400 and 800 meter relays, as well as in the 55, 100, and 300 meter hurdles. Kira was named All-State an amazing eight times in multiple events and honored her senior year as a High School All-American at the Indoor Track National Meet. Kira’s all-around successes helped Gar-Field win outdoor team state championships in 1997 and 1999, and both indoor and outdoor championships in 2000. Kira still holds the school record at G-F in the pole vault. After Gar-Field, Kira accepted a full scholarship to attend Akron University, where she won multiple Mid Atlantic Conference championships and was a three-time All-American in the pole vault. Kira also qualified for the 2004 Olympic Trials and has since been inducted into the Akron University Track and Field Hall of Fame. |
