Kai Roebuck, '98 - Girls Basketball
Kai was a major contributor to the success of the G-F Lady Indians basketball team. In the three seasons that she started from 1996 to 1998, the girls team was 76-6, won three district championships, two regional championships, and one state championship in 1998. For her efforts, Kai was named 1st team All-Cardinal District, All-Northwest Region, and All-Area in 1997 and 1998. She was also named to the 1998 Associated Press 2nd team All-State, 1st team VHSCA All-State, and the Washington Post All-Met 2nd team. Kai’s leadership and athletic prowess was a big factor in the team’s overtime victory in the 1998 state championship game, as she scored 18 points in the overtime victory. That championship team was ranked #19 nationally by the USA Today newspaper. She also played in the 1998 VHSCA All-Star game at Hampton Coliseum starting for the West team and helped secure the win. Kai finished her senior year averaging 12.5 PPG, 7 RPG and 3 SPG with the Lady Indians. Following her success at G-F, Kaiysha took her talents to East Tennessee State University and the Lady Buccaneers Women’s basketball team, where she started as a freshman and averaged 7.1 points and 3.6 rebounds per game. Kai transferred to George Mason University her sophomore year, but was unable to letter due to a shoulder injury. She stayed in the area and now works for the Fairfax County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court. Kai also volunteered her time as an Assistant Coach of the Varsity Girls Basketball team here at Gar-Field for the 2014 and 2015 seasons. She hopes to return to coaching in the future so that she can continue to share her love for the game with the youth. |
