Jack Duncan, Coach - Football, Wrestling
Coach Duncan started teaching and coaching at Gar-Field in 1966. He was an assistant varsity football line coach from 1967 thru 1970. The 1967 varsity football team was undefeated, yielding only 12 points all season. Coach Duncan was an assistant varsity track coach from 1966 thru 1969, and the head wrestling coach from 1966 thru 1980. As the head wrestling coach at Gar-Field, Coach Duncan’s teams won ten District championships, four Regional championships and one State championship. Individually, his wrestlers won 58 District championships, 26 Regional championships and 8 State championships. Coach Duncan was responsible for bringing in and developing the careers of many great assistant coaches. He inspired the Gar-Field student body, cheerleaders, Indianettes, choral members, band members, teachers and staff to be invested in the wrestling program. He hosted many District, Regional and State tournaments at Gar-Field. With Coach Duncan, you learned to fight when you think there is no more fight left within you. You learned to get up after you’ve fallen. You learned about sacrifice. You learned to endure and to overcome. Coach Duncan has been a well-respected person outside of Gar-Field as well, winning many awards and honors. |
