Virginia “Gigi” Miller, '97 - Track
Gigi was an All-State track star for Gar-Field High School from 1995 to 1997 and Captain for the 1997 Girls State AAA Outdoor Track Championship team. At Gar-Field Gigi garnered praise for her record breaking marks in the horizontal jumps and 400-meter dash. Her teams also won back-to-back Indoor and Outdoor Cardinal District Championships and Northwest Regional Championships in 1996 and 1997. Named to the Washington Post All-Met (Indoor and Outdoor) track team in 1996 and 1997, Gigi was also awarded Athlete of the Year for both Indoor and Outdoor track by the Potomac News for both years. Gigi went on to have a stellar track career at Odessa Junior College and the University of Arkansas, etching her name in Arkansas history as the university's first NCAA national champion. A three-time World Championships qualifier, Gigi credits her parents with cultivating a loving and spiritual atmosphere, which allowed her and her brothers to thrive in sport. She currently resides in Fayetteville, Arkansas with her husband Chris Johnson, where they continue to shape and develop a new generation of track and field athletes. |
