Fred Milbert, Class of 1972, Coach - Basketball
Fred played football and baseball for Gar-Field High School from 1969 thru 1972. He was Gar-Field High School’s “Most Outstanding Athlete” in 1972 and was awarded a baseball scholarship to James Madison University. After graduating JMU in 1976, Fred began his career as a teacher and coach for Prince William County schools. In 1982 he began his high school coaching experience as an assistant varsity boys’ basketball coach for Gar-Field High School. He would also serve terms as coach for freshman football, girls JV soccer and volleyball. In 1984, Fred was hired to teach Health and Physical Education and became the Head coach of the Girls Basketball team. He served 15 seasons as head Coach of the Gar-Field “Lady” Indians winning 11 consecutive District Championships, 4 Regional Championships, and the State Championship in 1998, ranking 19 in the country according to USA Today. Fred amassed a record of 327 wins and 62 losses during his illustrious career. In 1999, Fred accepted the position of Supervisor of Health and Physical Education and Athletics for Prince William County Public Schools. In this role he provided leadership to the high school athletic programs and supported the Virginia High School League in their role in the state athletic programs. |
