Dexter Green, '74 - Football, Basketball, Baseball
Dexter Green, aka Mr. Gar-Field, was a stellar athlete playing varsity football, basketball and baseball from 1973 thru 1975. In 1974, he was the star running back for what is considered the most famous football game in state history, as two undefeated rivals and ranked AAA teams, Gar-Field and Woodbridge, played for the District Championship before the largest crowd ever to watch a county game, nearly 15,000 fans were in attendance. Dexter Green received a football scholarship from Iowa State University, breaking ISU records for rushing yards, and is a member of the ISU Hall of Fame. He also played in the Canadian Football League. Sadly, Dexter lost his battle with cancer in 2003 at the age of 46. His legacy at Gar-Field and ISU live on. |
