Brian Banks, '82 - Track & Field, Football, Basketball
Although Brian won multiple district and regional championship with the Gar-Field basketball and football teams, it was on the track where he enjoyed incredible success as a High School All-American track and field star. He won individual state championships in the 4 x 100, 4 x 400, and the 200-meter events. In 1982, Brian scored 26 of the teams 35 points to secure an outdoor state championship for the Indians. Brian’s personal best set several school records Brian went on to receive a Track and Fiend scholarship from George Mason University, where he had continued success and received All-American honors. Competition took him around the world where Brian enjoyed meeting new people and seeing interesting places. After college, Brian stayed on at GMU. He first managed the athletic facilities before moving into the marketing, promotions, and ticket sales operations. Brian was fortune enough to have been a part of the excitement and attention GMU received when they reached the NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four in 2006. Brian has also worked within the school systems exposing young kids to college and its requirements, including students with special needs. He has also coached a variety of youth sports and has had the pleasure of coaching his two daughters as well. Brian appreciates all the coaches and teachers that inspired him to push himself to be his best and to never settle for less. |
