Bob Sherrill, Contributor (Activities Director)
Bob's career at Gar-Field Senior High School started in 1969 as an Assistant Football Coach and Head Track Coach. He became Athletic Director (AD) in 1970. During his tenure, Bob became the Architect of an athletic program second to none. He was responsible for hiring good coaches and making sure they had the tools necessary to compete in one of the most competitive high school conferences in Virginia. While AD, Gar-Field won a State Football Championship, State Basketball Championship, and numerous District and Regional championships. In addition to the above, Gar-Field’s facilities were excellent. Bob organized the Booster's Club, Athletic fields were upgraded, bleachers were added to the football stadium, and an underground watering system was installed. Bob made Gar-Field a first class program at all levels for both boys and girls programs and set high standards that remain in place today. Sadly, Bob passed away earlier this year but his accomplishments and legacy shall forever be remembered. |
