Bill Brown, '70 - Football, Baseball, Basketball, Wrestling
Bill earned 10 varsity letters at Gar-Field as a member of the wrestling, football, baseball and basketball teams. He was a member of the famed “Comanche” defense of the 1967 football team that went undefeated and allowed only 12 points all season. Bill was an All-District, All-Region, and All-State football player. He was President of the Letterman’s Club and voted Mr. Gar-Field his senior year. Bill would go on to further make his mark in area and state athletics as Coach Brown, a highly successful football coach heading programs at Potomac, C.D. Hylton and Colonial Forge High Schools. During his 40-year career, Coach Brown amassed a 270-94 record, while winning numerous championships to include two state football titles back-to-back in 1998 and 1999 at C.D. Hytlon. Coach Brown was named “Coach of the Century” by InsideNova and in 2001 was inducted into the VHSL Hall of Fame. He is currently an assistant for his son John Brown, who in 2018 was appointed to succeed his father as the head football coach at Colonial Forge High School. |
