Ann Martin, Theater Coach
Ann sponsored the drama club for 20 years before her retirement in 2003. During her time with drama club, she built the program up by offering every student in the school the chance to have a place in the cast or crew. Her policy was always “High School Theater is the place for students to learn skills, make friends, and have fun”. In order to offer these opportunities to as many students as possible, Mrs. Martin cast every student who auditioned for her main stage shows, regardless of experience or ability, and found a place for them to be a part of one of her amazing shows. Ms. Martin produced an average of two shows per year, alternating between producing a one-act play for VHSL competition and producing a large-scale musical production. Students for all groups, including Honors/IB, Special Ed, ESOL, and everyone in between were included and pushed to give their best possible performance. Because of her inclusive attitude, drama club was always a place where all students felt safe and appreciated. The proof of her success is not only in the various awards and honors she and her students won, but also in the thousands of student lives she touched over her career with extra-curricular drama. |
