Ann Lockett served as a coach at Gar-Field High School for 21 years before moving into Administrative work. During the 1960’s, Mrs. Lockett was instrumental in the creation of what is now known as the Prince William County Parks and Recreation Department. Her summer basketball and other sports programs formed the nucleus of the current county system. She was also the catalyst for bringing AAU basketball to the area. In each varsity sport her teams earned championship titles regularly. Her teams also won sectional awards prior to the formation of the VHSL. Ann Lockett coached many girls who have gone on to become coaches themselves as well as two students who went onto Olympic participation, Paula Girven and Benita Fitzgerald. |
